LUDEP
ACJ & Associates, Inc. is the Distributor and Provider of Technical Support for the UK National Radiological Protection Board's (NRPB's) LUDEP© Software for Internal Dosimetry - in North and South America and the Pacific Rim Countries. Dr. James is an author of LUDEP© and collaborates with NRPB staff in the development of new versions
LUDEP© (LUng Dose Evaluation Program) and the new ICRP Pulication 66 (1994) respiratory tract model evolved together - Version 1.0 (1993) was published by NRPB to implement a late draft of the proposed lung model; Version 1.1 (1994) incorporated all of the recommendations of ICRP Publication 66, and; Version 2.0 (1996) included a 'bioassay' module, and the facility to evaluate ingrowth of progeny radionuclides in a radioactive series. The current version is 2.07 - updated in June, 2000.
Please note that LUDEP© Version 2.0x calculates doses to body organs (other than the respiratory tract) by applying the metabolic models of the ICRP Publication 30 series.
LUDEP© is a suite of programs, developed in Turbo and Power Basic and compiled for the IBM-compatible Personal Computer. It enables the user to calculate doses and dose rates to the respiratory tract regions and other body organs for a wide range of user-defined conditions. The softare has been designed to be as flexible as possible, permitting the user to change most of the parameters used in the dose calculation and display the results obtained at each stage of the calculation. However, for the majority of applications, the user will not wish to deviate from ICRP-recommended parameter values, and so LUDEP© has been designed to select these default values automatically when loaded.
Key Benefits of LUDEP© Software
Fully compatible with ICRP Publication 66 respiratory tract model.
Enables user to specify the "type" and "route" of exposure - for both "acute" and "chronic" exposures.
Enables user to specify conditions of exposure (physiological & aerosol) - or adopt ICRP66 reference assumptions.
User can choose ICRP66 reference absorption types - or specify own absorption behavior.
Radioelement is selected graphically - by highlighting its "box" in the periodic table - incorporating both ICRP38 and Oak Ridge radiation databases.
Allows "parent" and "daughter" radioactive decays to be merged - in user-defined equilibrium ratios.
Allows "in growth" and "decay" of radioactive daughters (from relatively short-lived parent) to be calculated.
Database contains all of the ICRP30 publication-series metabolic models.
Allows user to define their own metabolic model.
Calculates organ doses, effective dose, and/or bioassay excretion functions.
